به گزارش بی اف آی ( انستیتوی فیلم بریتانیا) هم اکنون تنها هفت درصد سینماها به نمایش فیلم هایی که جریان اصلی محسوب نمی شوند، اختصاص دارد. این سینماها غالبا در پایتخت و جنوب شرقی بریتانیا قرار دارند.

به گفته دست اندرکاران سینمای بریتانیا، در ۱۰ سال اخیر متوسط سهم بریتانیا در سینماها حدودا ۶ درصد بود، این در حالی است که این میزان سال گذشته ۱۳ درصد بوده است؛ این آمار می تواند به استقبالی که از فیلم برنده اسکار "سخنرانی پادشاه" و یا قسمت آخر فیلم هری پاتر شد، مربوط باشد.

به گفته مدیر انستیتوی فیلم بریتانیا این امر از طریق پرورش و گسترش مهارت ها و تولید در عرصه سینما حاصل می شود.
